President and Chief Executive Officer, Vancouver Coastal Health

We are pleased to share this year’s Impact Report, which is a collection of patient-centred stories that highlight our commitment to delivering exceptional care to patients, clients and residents throughout Vancouver Coastal Health.

Our team of more than 30,000 health-care workers support the delivery of equitable, compassionate health care to 1.25 million people. We are guided by our vision of healthy lives in healthy communities, and we strive to create safe, welcoming spaces where everyone has equitable access to high-quality care.

We are committed to improving health and access to culturally safe care for Indigenous Peoples, and we are actively contributing to reconciliation and healing. This commitment is grounded in the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and our dedication to creating an environment where individuals can access care that is both equitable and culturally affirming.

Another key focus of VCH is the principle of accessibility and inclusion. We are committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion, and we are working to make sure our programs and services are available and accessible to everyone, including those living in rural and remote communities.

Closely related to our work around equity, our anti-racism efforts centre on experiences of racialized communities and assert the right for all people to access safe, quality care, free from discrimination. We recognize the ongoing impact of racism on health, and we are leading a meaningful transformation to support greater health equity.

We are also integrating planetary health principles and climate resilience into our operations at VCH. This includes reducing energy consumption, water use, waste and emissions throughout all sites. We are taking steps to retrofit older facilities and to design new ones to be low carbon, climate resilient and environmentally sustainable. These efforts are essential to building a health system that not only adapts to, but also mitigates the impact of climate change.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone providing patient care and support. We invite you to read more about the work being done by our teams to deliver care in all the communities we serve.
